Strategic Thinking Elysian Hotel
The world is getting increasingly competitive. There are various players within the industry having similar products to offer the market. Customers are increasingly becoming demanding. They have increased knowledge, and therefore, know that there is always an option when they need a product. Suppliers on the other hand, have become more demanding.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Strategic Thinking: Elysian Hotel specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More They want to supply more products at increased cost citing increase in various factors of production. A firm always finds itself in such an awkward situation in the market. This would force the firm to come up with mechanisms through which it can outsmart other firms. It must be able to offer customers products that are unique in the market. It must stand out as a firm that offers a positive change at regular interval to its customers. According to Wootton and Horne ( 47), it is through this that it will be in a position to manage competition and come out as a successful firm in the market. This would be achievable if the strategies that the management comes up with are competitive enough to make it be seen as the best. This study has its focus on Elysian Hotel in Chicago. The hospitality industry in the United States of America has expanded a great within this century. This is one of the oldest industries in the world. The major growth factor in this industry is the tourism sector, both locally and internationally. The number of visitors a region is able to attract within a year always dictates the growth of the hospitality industry. The United States of America is one of the leading touristsââ¬â¢ destinations in the world. There are a number of issues that affects this industry. The first issue that has been of concern is the seasonality in this industry. During off-seasons, the industry always faces serious economic challenges. In some extr eme cases, the cost of production exceeds the total sales that this firm makes. Another issue that always arises in this industry is the issue of insecurity. Pearson (112) observes that the United States has had a prolonged political stability that has enabled firms to excel in this industry. However, this industry is facing a new security threat in the form of terrorism and hooliganism. The United States remains the leading target of large terrorist groups around the world. The hotels are some of the institutions under great threat. Trigger-happy Hooligans are also targeting social places including the hotels, shooting at individuals indiscriminately. The management has these challenges, besides the challenge posed by competitors, to deal with firmly in order to be considered successful.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? It is a fact that this is one of the market leaders in this industry. It has managed to withstand the market competition, but this may not be a guarantee that it will always be successful even if it fails to develop better strategies. According to Michel (92), the management must come up with various options that will help it remain competitive in the market. One of the ways it can manage the issue of seasonality is to embrace social media marketing. Most of the travelers who come to the United always try to search important information regarding the firm in the internet. They visit the internet with an aim of finding the best places to visit and to stay. This makes the internet the best place where Elysian Hotel can market itself to these customers. The firm should also offer online bookings to its customers as a way of making their experience better. This will help it sol ve the issue of seasonality in this industry. Bruce (125) the firm will be able to attract visitors throughout the year. This will eliminate cases where production cost is higher than sales generated. The issue of insecurity can be handled through public-private partnership projects. Insecurity is an issue that is arising from the external environment. It is therefore, not easy for a firm to approach it as an individual. Elysian Hotel should partner with other private firms and engage the government of the United States and the Public at large to combat crime and terrorism. Individually, the firm should install state-of-the-art facilities that can help detect dangerous weapons when one tries to infiltrate them into the facility. Grundy (74) says that it is through this that the firm will be assured of relative security in their facilities. The team members were concerned of the increasing threat that this firm was facing from various competitors in the market. They were in agreement that this industry has had a massive development in the 21st century. They stated that for Elysian Hotel to be successful, it must consider adopting the following recommendations. The management should consider moving most of its operational activities online. It should consider making the process of booking the hotels, and payments of the services online. This will reduce operational activities within the firm. The management should consider improving the value they offer customers. This may include offering additional benefits to the customers such as free transportation within the city of Chicago. This will increase levels of satisfaction of customers. The management should improve the security of the facility. It should install detectors, and other machines that can help detect and prevent the use of harmful weapons by criminals. The management should embrace corporate social responsibility, especially on environment as a way of increasing its popularity. Implementing the abo ve recommendations will have a number of advantages to the firm. However, it also comes with a number of challenges that Elysian Hotel must be ready to face. The following are some of the risks that the firm will face by implementing these strategies.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Strategic Thinking: Elysian Hotel specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Going online exposes this firm to cyber criminals. These criminals can use this opportunity to rob unsuspecting customers of their valuables. This may have serious integrity issue against the firm. This will spoil the image of the firm in the world market. Offering additional value to the customers will increase the total cost of production for the firm. Installing the security gadgets may force the firm to hire qualified personnel from outside the firm. Outsourcing this activity will increase the operational costs within this firm. Corporate social responsibili ty may at times fail to achieve the desired impact. The public may fail to appreciate the positive move by this firm to make the environment a better place. The above actions are also likely to trigger competitors in this market to do the same. As such, the strategy may not as successful as would have been expected. Works Cited Bruce, Andy. Research Paper Essay Example Research Paper Essay Research Paper Essay A study at Florida Atlantic University found that people who underwent chiropractic adjustments had a fifteen percent lower rate of the flu than people who didnt have their backs cracked. People often go to chiropractors to receive treatment for back pain, neck pain, headaches, car accidents, repetitive motion injuries or strains, and sports injuries. Twenty million Americans use chiropractic services every year. Chiropractic represents the most rapidly growing segment of the professional health services market. Chiropractic care is the best care for your back because it has a broad range of different types of treatment, it is highly advantageous, it is helpful for everyone, and it is inexpensive. Chiropractic is the largest, most regulated, and best recognized of the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) professions. It is the third largest doctoral-level health care profession after medicine and dentistry. There are more than 60,000 active chiropractic licenses in the United States. All 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands officially recognize chiropractic as a health care profession. Chiropractic care means it is done by hand. In an interview with Steve Smith he said, ââ¬Å"There are a few different types of chiropractic care. The most common one is a massage. This is where a chiropractor comes and massages the muscles around the injured part of the spine and either massages the area of where the hurt part is or will pop the bone(s) which causes increased motion of the bones and helps them go back into place. This is otherwise called ââ¬Å"being corrected.

Assignment 2 - Essay Example They roughly run towards each other to grab the ball and throw it to a teammate. One or two boys fall to the ground, with one shedding copious tears, but their daddies merely tell them to stand up and run again. The crying boyââ¬â¢s father approaches him, pats him at the back and instructs him to play ball again as if nothing happened. My observations made me reflect on the kinds of play these children engage in. I thought Barbie dolls are considered a representation of the American ideal of beauty ââ¬â sexy, thin and stylish, given to little girls like a torch passed on from one generation of women. It is but expected by society for a girl to achieve the much coveted beauty and grace exemplified by Barbie dolls, as looks matter terribly in this society. That is why the older ladies seemed to be guiding the little girls on how to make their dolls more beautiful, in the hopes that these girls will do so for themselves. On the other hand, boys are encouraged to engage in contact sports. Mothers endure the mess and stench of sweaty jerseys and hold their hearts in their throats as they witness their little boys being roughed up in the playing field all because of the image boys need to project as being manly. The fathers proudly motivate their sons to go for a goal or to brush of simple accidents of tripping to the ground as trivial. It seemed that expressing pain by crying in such accidents is not encouraged. Boys and girls are treated differently from the time they are born. Baby girls are considered fragile and they are exposed to delicate language and handled very gently. Boys, on the other hand, are exposed to strong tones and power-filled language and are handled less gently as they are tossed in the air and held upright from a younger age to demonstrate their power and strength (Rasquinha & Mouly, 2005). Learner-to-Educator Ratio and its Impact on the Quality of Education Thesis
Learner-to-Educator Ratio and its Impact on the Quality of Education in South African Primary Schools - Thesis Example Though the number of educators has also increased but not at the rate desired to keep pace with student enrolment. Presently there are some 400,000 teachers employed in primary schools. The success of the primary school system is judged by academic performance based mainly on the level of passes in the systemic evaluations that take place in Grade 3 and 6. In 2001 the learner achievement results showed low achievement in numeracy and literacy. There are a number of determinants of academic success such as socioeconomic background of learners, learning facilities, resources, quality of the teachers and learner-to-educator ratio. In 2004 the grade 6 national systemic evaluation indicated that although a new curriculum and learning materials was developed and instituted throughout the primary school system learning achievement was still below par. A great majority of learners scored at the ââ¬Ënon-achievedââ¬â¢ level (lower than 40% overall) with 41% in natural sciences, 38% in languages and some 27% in mathematics. Only 31% in natural sciences, 28% in languages and 12% in mathematics were functioning at or above the required grade 6 level (scores above 50%) and outstanding (scores over 70%) combined (Bulunga, Daniel, Southall, Lutchman (2006). With the increasing number of learners entering primary school and the low rate of increase of the number of educators it is prudent to note that the disparity between the two will eventually become large and its effects far reaching. As one of the determinants of academic performance the learner-to-educator ratio defined as the average number of pupils per educator at a particular level of education in a given school year becomes important to the delivery of high educational standards. There is a view amongst some researchers and educators suggesting that smaller classes has the benefit of allowing teachers to have the opportunity to devote much more time to every student in an effort

John Stuart Mill Essay -- essays research papers
Who is John Stuart Mill? John Stuart Mill was born on May 20, 1806, in London, England. He was mostly known for his radical views. For example, he preached sexual equality, divorce, universal suffrage, free speech, and proportional representation. He had many works of writings such as Principles of Political Economy, On Liberty, The Subjections of Women, and the Three Essays of Religion: Nature, the Utility of Religion, and Theism. à à à à à John Mill was the eldest son of James Mill who was a philosopher, economist and a senior official in the East India Company. James educated John when he was young. His father taught him discipline, Greek at the age of three, history, languages, calculus, logic, political economy, geography, psychology, and rhetoric. At the age of twelve he was a competent logician and by the age of sixteen a well trained economist. (http://www.utilitarianism.com/jsmill.htm) His father believed that teaching children while they were young would have an ever lasting effect on them. The purpose of this push of education at a young age is because James thought that teaching John would have the chance of becoming a prophet of the utilitarian gospel. John had to eventually take his learning from his father and teach his eight younger brother and sisters the same material. à à à à à Around the age of sixteen, John created a Utilitarian Society, which had the goal of bringing happiness to the greatest number of people, where he was one of a ââ¬Å"small knot of young menâ⬠who practiced his fatherââ¬â¢s political and philosophical views. (http://www.utm.edu/research/iep/m/milljs.htm) At the age of twenty-one he suffered a mental breakdown, which resulted from severe strain from his earlier years. In his own autobiography, which was later published after his death, he wrote, that he was in a ââ¬Å"dull state of nervesâ⬠; and that he had lost his charm. He said he had ââ¬Å"no delight in virtue, or the general good, but also just as little in anything else.â⬠After several months he realized that his emotions where not dried up and ââ¬Å"the cloud gradually drew off.â⬠In 1823 John took a clerkship position in the Examinerââ¬â¢s Office at the East India Company. Later he eventually headed that department. Harriet Tay lor who was a close friend with John co-wrote several pieces of work with him. They met in 1830 and she was the mother of t... ...em. This is what he is trying to bring up to action of treating women with respect and the same as men treat other men. He concludes chapter one by stating, ââ¬Å"But, in that case, all that has been done in the modern world to relate that chain on the minds of women, has been a mistake. They never should have been allowed to receive a literary education. Women who read, much more women who write, are, in the existing constitution of things, a contradiction and a disturbing element: and it was wrong to bring women up with any acquirements but those of an odalisque, or of a domestic servant.â⬠(The Longman Anthology, pg. 527) In conclusion, He was mostly known for his radical views. Principles of Political Economy, On Liberty, The Subjections of Women, and the Three Essays of Religion: Nature, the Utility of Religion, and Theism, where just some of the many works that he published to show the world that everything is not always perfect and intact. He showed that you could express your mind and that this is the new era of thinking. His writings on womenââ¬â¢s rights to the economy where way ahead of his time. It is true that John Stuart Millââ¬â¢s is not known well enough today as he should be.

Apocalypse Now Analysis Essay
The line ââ¬Å"Mistah Kurtz ââ¬â he deadâ⬠from T. S. Elliotââ¬â¢s poem ââ¬ËThe Hollow Menââ¬â¢ refers to one of the movieââ¬â¢s main characters: Mr. Kurtz, a European trader who had gone into ââ¬Å"the heart of darknessâ⬠ie the middle of the vast Vietnamese jungle with European standards of life and behavior. Because heââ¬â¢s alienated from the morals and spiritual strengths he cannot maintain his sanity and soon turns into a barbarian. ââ¬Å"Eyes they dare not meet in dreamsâ⬠ââ¬â in my mind, these are the eyes of the innocent Vietnamese whose death they ordered. Theyââ¬â¢ being the American soldiers who, throughout the duration of their journey through the jungle lost their sanity and were brainwashed because of the weapons they were given. What I was particularly fascinated by in the film ââ¬ËApocalypse Nowââ¬â¢ was the way the good can somehow turn into the evil, not on their own, but because of their surroundings. ââ¬Å"[.. ] We were in the jungle, there were too many of us, we had access to too much money, too much equipment and little by little we went insaneâ⬠ââ¬âsaid by director and producer, Coppola at the Cannes film festival in 1979. Even the director had, little by little, gone insane being exposed to the Vietnamese jungle for so many years. The making of the film had taken more than 10 years and $30million to create which had brought Coppola to attempted suicide a couple of times. The film is based on the novella ââ¬ËHeart of Darknessââ¬â¢ which took place during the Vietnam War, where the American and the Vietnamese soldiers showed no mercy when it came to a matter of life and death. Throughout the film, I realized that the main character, Captain Willard, sent to assassinate Colonel Kurtz, began to be more and more captivated by Kurtzââ¬â¢s achievements and was beginning to think like him as he was exposed to immoral atrocities of the Great War. When General Corman described Willardââ¬â¢s mission to him he told him ââ¬Å"In this war, things get confused out there, power, ideals, the old morality, and practical military necessity. Out there with these natives it must be a temptation to be god. Because thereââ¬â¢s a conflict in every human heart between the rational and the irrational, between good and evil. The good does not always triumph. Sometimes the dark side overcomes what Lincoln called the better angels of our nature. Every man has got a breaking point. You and I have. Walter Kurtz has reached his. And very obviously, he has gone insane. â⬠This quote reminds me of Danteââ¬â¢s Inferno mentioned in the poem ââ¬Å"The Hollow Menâ⬠ââ¬â a journey through the different circles of hell depending on the type of person one was and the type of crime they had committed during their lifetime. The man is clear in his mind but his soul is mad. â⬠Like Alberto Giacometti, Kurtz and Willard develop two faces during the time of the war. The only difference is that Giacometti didnââ¬â¢t need a war to show this, his dual personality was natural in criticizing himself, his paintings and his sculptures. Whilst watching the film I found it mainly disturbing how these men, men with families, men who had peaceful souls, could casually blow off the head of a Vietnamese person without feeling just a tiny bit of hurt in their hearts. They could ââ¬Å"kill without feelingâ⬠¦ without passionâ⬠¦ without judgmentâ⬠¦ without judgment! Because itââ¬â¢s judgement that defeats us. â⬠The fact that these characters, sent out on mission through the rivers of a foreign place, were simple men, one a chef, the other a surfer, and the other a sailor gives the audience the feeling that this could happen to anyone. Being placed in the jungles of Vietnam with nothing but weapons would turn us into these animalistic beings with only one instinct: kill to survive. Do you know that ââ¬Ëifââ¬â¢ is the middle word in life? If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt youâ⬠This film is, in fact, all about losing oneââ¬â¢s mind, being brainwashed by the immoralities of society, to be converted into an emotionless killer. Itââ¬â¢s about the delusion of what an evil man is in the normal personââ¬â¢s eyes compared to what an evil man is in the brainwashed personââ¬â¢s eyes.
